Archives for July 2011
I thought I’d quickly sum up life around here. Now that there are
to take care of.
At times it seems a little crazy, but mostly it has been a very smooth transition over the past five weeks.
It has been so sweet to watch how Caroline and Benjamin just love little Hannah Joy. This is my new favorite photo…
And these are pretty great too.
I have learned a few things like…
never leave the baby bathtub unattended on the dining room table.
I took Hannah Joy upstairs to get another outfit for her after her bath because the one I had picked out for her was way too big. When I came back down the stairs…this is what I saw.
It was pretty hard to scold him while taking his picture. Really, I just wanted to laugh–until I realized that I had to track down another set of pj’s for him. I’ve also learned that if I let Ben “help” me with Hannah Joy’s bath, to make sure he doesn’t pull the plug…that get’s kind of soggy.
On a serious note, I’ve been learning patience. I’ve been learning to slow down and have realistic expectations of my kids. (For example reminding myself that my boy is two and he doesn’t know that pulling the plug on the baby bath will make a big mess.) Having a new baby changes the expectations on the “older kids” but they are still just four and two.
The biggest adjustment has been schedule…or lack there of.
Trying to get the kids to bed at a decent hour.
Seeking some kind of rhythm in our lives–which is not easy for me!
Derek teases me that I don’t do the same thing twice…and there is a lot of truth to that. I am working on creating some routines for the kids.
I do feel like my brain is on overload…keeping track of where everyone is…playing referee…managing three requests at a time…shew!
In any case…some of the highlights of this last week have been:
1. Visiting with Derek’s Grandparents who made the trek from S.C. to see everyone.
2. Trying to stay cool in the pool in this icky 90 degree weather.
3. Derek and I celebrated our 7th anniversary at the Melting Pot…love that place. We had a nice two hour dinner together.
4. WE GOT A MINIVAN! I’m so excited. I love, love, love it. So thankful!
5. Caroline and Derek went grocery shopping and came home with two dozen red roses for me. So incredibly sweet!
Well, my hubby just turned the light out…can’t see the computer keys anymore and I should get some sleep!
Loving this new album by Matt Redman.
Here’s one my favorites from the album…I posted earlier to facebook so this may be a repeat for some of you but you can listen again. 🙂
What an awesome promise to cling to. We are NEVER left alone. One of just 10,000 reasons for my heart to sing!
