Our ultimate downfall as a human race is our questioning of the Father’s love.
Satan’s greatest weapon is to plant seeds of doubt in your mind, questioning who God is and who you are.
And mind you, they are never big questions. They are small and sneaking questions. They are clarifying questions. They hint that perhaps God’s character is not as true as he promises. Did God really…? Are you sure…? Why hasn’t he answered you yet…? What if you know better about this one thing…? Why would he ever love you that much…? Maybe you’ve already messed it up… Maybe he doesn’t love you anymore…
1 John urges us to “test the spirits.” We must be careful to test everything we hear and every passing thought so that we can know the Spirit of God.
By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. (1 John 4:2-3aESV)
