Parenting is always full of firsts…
Well, this is a first for us.
Sweet little HJ took a spill off the couch on Thursday. It was one of those “freak” falls where she fell with her arm back behind her.
My first panicked thought was that she just broke her arm. But after scooping her up and carefully examining her whole arm, she seemed to be just fine. In fact, she calmed down right away and returned to playing.
The next day we kept an eye on it and she seemed ok, but by Saturday we realized that although she was playing happily, she seemed to be favoring her right arm and wasn’t fully extending her elbow. So we took a trip to the Pediatrician. They did x-rays that showed a possible fracture. They put her in a sling and said to take her to her regular doctor on Monday. So, we did. Another x-ray revealed a definite fracture so we were sent to the Orthopedic Surgeon where a third x-ray showed no need for surgery. She has to wear a cast for three weeks and then everything should be healed by then.
It was funny to go in with a fully active toddler to coming out with with a fully casted little pumpkin pie.
She came with me to the grocery store last night where the cashiers exclaimed about how sad her little arm looked. Poor thing!
I am so thankful for modern medicine, competent and thorough doctors, and a Heavenly Father who protects and heals. I am thankful that the whole experience was not traumatic and that her sweet laid back personality doesn’t seem to mind the heavy and awkward cast.
I’m hoping when she is older she will get a kick out of these sweet little pictures.
